Martin Kabas was born in 1963 in Dornbirn, Austria and received his first accordion lessons at the age of six. At fifteen he started his double bass studies.
He studied at the masterclasses of Ludwig Streicher and Alois Posch at the Vienna Music University as well as with Johannes Auersperg at the Graz Music University. After finishing his studies with distinction he was awarded the Karl Böhm-Prize by the ministry of culture and arts.
Allready while studying he perfomed with chamber ensembles and orchestras such as: Wiener Staatsoper, Wiener Philharmoniker and the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra.
He has performed as the bass sections principal with the Gustav Mahler Festival Orchestra and the Artis Orchestra. Other important ensembles in his carreer have been: The Ensemble Kontrapunkte, the Ensemble Berlin (Members of the Berlin Philharmonic), the Austrian-Hungarian Haydn Philharmonic, the Wiener Kammerorchester, the Ensemble of the 20th Century and the Camerata Academica Salzburg.
From 1984 to 1995 he was a member of the RSO Vienna and Martin Kabas joined the Vienna Symphony Orchestra's bass section in 1995. He is also performing as a soloist and has recorded for both, radio and tv.
